Evolution of IT Infrastructure:
The IT infrastructure in organizations today is an outgrowth of over 50 years of evolution in computing platforms , The five eras are:
1-General-purpose mainframe and minicomputer era: 1959 to present
2-Personal computer era: 1981 to present
Client/server era: 1983 to present-3
Enterprise Internet computing era: 1992 to present-4
5-Cloud Computing: 2000 to present
These eras do not necessarily end for all organizations at the same time, and the technologies that characterize one era may also be used in another time period for other purposes.
Client/server era: 1983 to present:
Server / client (in general):
-Desktop clients networked to servers, with processing work split - between clients and servers
-Network may be two-tiered or multitiered (N-tiered)
-Various types of servers (network, application, Web)
